| Stylin' Or Not. |
[Nov. 3rd, 2009|09:35 pm] |
I was talking to my friend, Dana about art styles and what not and what exactly makes a style unique. We both talked it over and mostly feel horrid about what out styles used to be and are now trying to get out own personal ones. I already thinks she's there pft - I can recognize her art, regardless of the subject matter from anywhere from any size. Mine on the other... I don't have a pesonal style. A majority of my artwork, because want to be a storyboard artist, it mimicked. it's good that I can mimic, but it's bad I don't have something that's personally my own.
Most people would look at my work and say, "oh nooo! you've got a definate style!" But that's not really true. I have a style for coloring, and a style for inking, but not for the being that's being portrayed. Reeeeally bothersome... coloring and inking are only half of what makes a style. It's the skeleton though that really makes one's work recognizable.
John K, Thurop, Matt Groening, all have very distinct and unique art styles. It's so unique you can't even see what specific person inspired their works. That's the point I want to get to, that's where I want to be!
I have no clue how to get there though. I can do realism, no problem and I have a variety of influences. But nothing is me yet. I've come a long way from the anime days, I'll tell you what... but it seems like I've jumped out of one hole and into another.
Know what I'm sayin' guys?

| Life n' stuff. |
[Oct. 28th, 2009|09:45 am] |
I've been taking on 100 10$ sketch commissions and so far I've almost got ten people! Which means a one-hundred dollars! I kind of think I've overdoing some of them because they're kind of crossing the line of being a sketch, and being a finished piece. I dunno, as long as they don't take too long for me to do and they're not crappy I'm a happy camper. I should be done with two of them today, if not, then I'll try and finish them over the weekend along with the others.
Other than that, all's been good, physically I feel horrid though... But I have something for you guys! A shop a few blocks of me called, Happy Japan, just opened and I was their first visitor! A rather popular DA artist is doing all the advertising work for them to. Overall, cute store with unique items. If you're interested they do online orders. :)

| My Review on AstroBoy |
[Oct. 24th, 2009|02:37 pm] |
Went and saw Astroboy with my friends, and it was horrid. Well, I guess if you've never knew the original fandom it's a decent cartoon, but I watched the original cartoon and read the original manga so I didn't like most of the cartoon from the get go. What was a huge disappointment is that IMAGI studios said they worked closely with Tezuka's corp. I honestly can't believe that for a second otherwise the cartoon would've depicted more of Tezuka's humor and more of his characters personalities throughout the film.
The designs were ok, but I - of course, prefer the original designs and thought they would've looked kick ass in the new film. But I had more of a beef with the new characters, aka the kids. The designs didn't mesh well with Astro or the other inhabitants with the city and most of them, especially Cora, looked like cheap Pixar knockoffs, which already have a stylistic trend that pays homage to Don Bluth and Brad Bird. Direct copypasta's are bad as they normally loose originality and character in the process. Plus Cora was annoying and 2D as hell. Although no one died in the movie, I really wish that she had.
God... there's just so much more I could go into about the timing, plot, and overall execution but I'm really too exasperated. I don't have the energy. |
